At the age of 5 years old, Linda Blair had to get used to being the center of attention, initially as a child model, and then as an actress, in the event that out of a field of 600 hopefuls, she was chosen for the role of Regan the child who is possessed, as in The Exorcist. Linda was awarded the Golden Globe and was on way to winning an Academy Award. However, the news broke that the demon voice had been created in the voice of Mercedes McCambridge and that eight seconds of stunt dummies utilized, the hopes of an A list career was a failure. Over the next few years Linda was not a problem securing lead roles in a number of movies, including the very successful television film Born Innocent However, when she was peer pressured into purchasing cocaine before age 18, that led to her being detained and a subsequent sentence of three years of probation. Linda was subsequently blacklisted by Hollywood following the widely-publicized drug bust. She soon found her career limited to B movies and the occasional guest TV appearances.
